Woodie Guthrie, “All You Fascists Bound to Lose” (1944)

Woodie Guthrie was an influential American folk singer, communist, and outspoken anti-fascist during between the 1940s and 1960s. In 1944, the year before the end of the Second World War, and Mussolini’s and Hitler’s dictatorships, he recorded one of his most widely-celebrated songs, “You Fascists Are Bound to Lose.”

The following is Guthrie’s 1944 song, along with the lyrics.

Lyrics

I’m gonna tell you fascists
You may be surprised
The people in this world
Are getting organized
You’re bound to lose
You fascists bound to lose

All of you fascists bound to lose:
I said, all of you fascists bound to lose:
Yes sir, all of you fascists bound to lose:
You’re bound to lose! You fascists:
Bound to lose!

People of every nation
Marching side to side
Marching ‘cross these fields
Where a million fascists died
You’re bound to lose
You fascists bound to lose!
