I was delighted to participate – alongside Dr. Amy King (University of Bristol) Dr. Elizabeth Leake (Columbia University), Dr. Joshua Arthurs (University of Toronto), and Dr. Marla Stone (Occidental College) – in the Columbia Seminar in Modern Italian Studies' special session on "Resisting Silence: Unveiling the Legacy of the Italian Resistance" at the Italian Academy in New York City. Organized to mark the 80th anniversary of Italy's liberation from Fascism during the closing months of the Second World War, the session's papers explored different aspects of the legacies of Italy's anti-fascist resistance, both during and after WWII. My and Dr. King's presentation, titled "Towards an Anti-Fascist Pedagogy: On Promoting a Visual Literacy of Italian Far-Right Propaganda in the History Classroom," discussed the importance of promoting a "visual literacy" of contemporary far right propaganda as an expression of anti-fascist pedagogy.
